The Controversy towards Progress

Do you agree or disagree that progress is always good?

In my mind, progress is the development of the whole society. Basically, progress manifests the current talent of a certain age. Therefore, progress is usually good for us.

A remarkable example to prove my view is the progress of social property. In ancient times, the society stayed in slavery. The destiny of those slaves was extremely miserable, most of who were tortured by their masters. However, this system was later replaced by feudality. It is the progress of the whole society. This new system liberated those poor slaves and rendered the world much freer to some degree. Thus, the progress of the social system is always good to accelerate the world more liberated.

Another disputable fact about it is the progress of technology. Since the first industrial revolution, the pattern of the world experiences tremendous changes. The application of electricity, magnetism and steam machines made onerous tasks much easier. It also surged the productivity of the world and led society to an entirely new situation. Besides that, new kinds of transitions made the distance shorter and shorter. It also promoted the development of globalization. Moreover, as the computer and the Internet step into companies, factories and families, the whole world becomes closer and closer. No matter where you are, it is always possible for you to contact with others. The progress really makes our life more convenient and the society more advanced.

However, there still exist some concessions. Some progress of technology, admittedly, brings several problems. For instance, the technique of clone opens a new gate for human to cure many incurable diseases in the past. However, it also causes some serious moral consideration. The invention of cars really saves much time for us, but severe pollution has also been created since then. When we see the advantages of progress, we have to think about the defects of it at the same time.

Even though progress still holds some uncertain factors, we human always insist on developing, since we have confidence in solving these problems by uninterrupted discovery. In sum, I believe that progress is always good for us.    

My Choice of Transportation

Choose one of the following transportation vehicles and explain why you think it has change people’s life.

l  Airplanes

Definitely, I will choose airplanes. The reasons for me to choose it are comprehensive. I may explain in the following.

First of all, one reason is about history. Flying in the sky used to be one of human’s most avid dreams. Seen from the history, quantities of people devoted their lifetime in the career. However, they all failed and moreover, some of them even lost their lives in the experiments. Based on many procedures’ work, Liter brothers eventually made the dream come true. Airplanes, which could really fly in the sky, came to the earth. This invention inaugurated a new era of transportation.

The airplane is a perfectly useful tool. My second reason is about the global impact of the airplane. Due to the invention, everything can easily be conveyed from one place to another, no matter how far it is. We know, in the past, it would take nearly one month to travel from Asia to America. Now time has been shortened. It accomplished long-distance transportation. The airplane really accelerates the rate of globalization. The flow of products and communication can be readily operated between random two countries. International cooperation has also been promoted by such a rapid way of transportation.

The third one is to make our life more vibrant. People can spend less time in the trip and have more time to work and enjoy themselves. The point is that the airplane develops the tourism industry. People can gratify their desire to travel around the world. It is very important to both people and nations. To people, they will have more means to have fun and relax. As for nations, they also have another way to increase their revenues.

The airplane is really one of the greatest inventions in the past. It changed the world from many patterns, such as economics, lifestyles and productivity. It impacts on people and the world deeply. Therefore, my choice from the three is the airplane.
